My hours of research and testing all in one place for you to use! It can be so difficult to find non toxic essentials for the home, clean beauty products, and ethical clothing. The good list is all you need to find the best option for each category of your life. Let me know in the comments if you have any brands or products to recommend!
A star next to items means that I have personally tried it. If it is on this list, it is on my wish list, and has been thoroughly researched. To search for a keyword, hold down the “command” button and then click the letter “f” on your keyboard.
Kitchen
Cookware:
- Caraway Bakeware: Non toxic cookware from baking sheets to pans and more.
- La Chamba: a type of traditional ceramic cookware made with clay. You can buy this type of cookware from multiple sellers.
- Le Creuset Enameled Cast iron ⭐: I have a Le Creuset Tagine that is wonderful for cooking Moroccan cuisine. They offer many styles and sizes of cast iron pans and pots.
- Lodge Cast Iron ⭐: I would not buy this new because they pre-season their pans with processed seed oils. If that is something you try to avoid, you can buy them used so that the coating has already been cooked off.
- Made In Cookware ⭐: I love the stainless steel cookware that they sell. They are not as non-toxic as some other brands, but are designed in a way that the nickel mixed in is very unlikely to leach into food. If you want to be doubly safe, I would recommend looking into their carbon steel cookware, which I have not tried.
- Romertopf ⭐: Clay dutch ovens, great for baking bread, braising, or stews. You can soak it in water to create steam for making bread fluffier and crisper. You can find these used in thrift stores or online.
- Xtrema Ceramic Cookware ⭐: This cookware is made of 100% non-coated ceramic, and can be used in the same applications as cast iron while being 30% lighter.
Disposable Kitchen Items:
- If You Care ⭐: They sell parchment paper, baking cups, aluminum foil, trash bags, coffee filters, and more household and kitchen goods in compostable packaging.
Bathroom
- American Blossom Linens: Organic Cotton Made in the USA towels, bedding, and more.
- Plaine Products ⭐: Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and more. I have used their shampoo and conditioner for years. They have a refill program, and ship in compostable boxes with reusable metal bottles. They release a sustainability report every year.
Makeup and Skincare
- Toupes and Co Organics ⭐: Organic American Made makeup, skincare, soaps, and more. I have tried their tallow balms, lip balms, soap, and deodorant, and would recommend all of them.

Clothing
- Everlane ⭐: This clothing company creates minimal, modern clothing out of sustainable materials using ethical manufacturing. I have a pair of trousers from them that I love, and they will be a go-to for me in the future if I am looking for high quality upscale basics. Good On You rates them “good” on their sustainability rating.
- Good On You ⭐: This website was started by a nonprofit, and rates clothing brands on how overall ethical and sustainable they are. The website makes money through commission only through brands they rate as “good” or “great”. This is a wonderful resource if you are looking to buy clothing new.
- Pact: This clothing company creates simple, mostly organic cotton apparel. They are known for their casual basics. I personally have not tried them yet, but my husband has ordered some items he enjoys. Good on You rates them a “good” on their sustainability rating.
- Thursday Boot Company ⭐: Their shoes are made of Tier 1 USA cattle leather, and they utilize information from the nonprofit Leather Working Group to make sure their products are environmentally friendly. They are designed and built to last a lifetime (or at least a long time!). I have two pairs of boots and a pair of flats, and I will definitely be purchasing more in the future.
Apps & Websites
- Environmental Working Group (EWG) Skin Deep Database ⭐: Most products that you put on your skin have been tested and rated by this 501c3 nonprofit. I use them to search for products like sunscreen, laundry detergent, and more. It will help you investigate the ingredients, and know if the product is an acceptable toxicity level for you. You can download their app, and scan products to get its toxicity rating.
- SkinSort ⭐: I utilize this app and website to supplement the skin deep database, as it allows you to sort by specific qualifiers like silicone free. This website is specifically for skincare and makeup. You can also scan products through their app, and they will give you a breakdown of the ingredients.
- Good On You: ⭐ This website was started by a nonprofit, and rates clothing brands on how overall ethical and sustainable they are. The website makes money through commission only through brands they rate as “good” or “great”. This is a wonderful resource if you are looking to buy clothing new.
